Round baskets make you roll your blankets. This one doesn't — and it zips. The 22x14x18 inch rectangular shape takes comforters, throws and pillows folded flat, and the matching lid closes with a sewn-in zipper all the way around, sealing everything against dust, pet hair and curious paws. Nothing gets in, and nothing spills out even if the basket tips. The body is double-woven from about 6 lbs of thick natural cotton rope — dense enough that the sides stand straight with no frame inside, soft and smooth with nothing prickly. Stitched leather handles on the body and the lid carry a full load in one trip, and the handwoven Camel & White Mix finish settles into boho, modern-farmhouse and minimalist rooms alike. A note on arrival: like all woven rope baskets, it ships folded and compressed, and may show creases from packaging. Unfolding it is easy, and there is more than one way to do it: stuff it with pillows or blankets for a day or two, pass a hand steamer over the creases while gently stretching, or simply push the folds out and shape the sides by hand. Once opened up, it holds its rectangular form for good. The upright rectangle tucks against a wall, into a bedroom corner or along a closet shelf where round baskets waste space. Care is simple: spot clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry before zipping the lid closed. Built to be used for years, not seasons.
- Blankets lie flat, not rolled — the 22x14x18 inch rectangular shape takes folded blankets, comforters and pillows the way a round basket never can, from tv blankets to the spare-bedding pile
- The lid zips fully shut — a sewn-in zipper closes the matching lid all the way around, sealing contents against dust, pet hair and curious paws, so nothing gets in and nothing spills out even if the basket tips
- Holds its shape after one easy unfold — it ships folded flat; stuff it with blankets for a day, steam the creases, or push the sides out by hand, and the thick double-woven rope stands straight for good with no frame inside
- Stitched leather handles on body and lid — two side handles carry the full basket in one trip, and a matching leather pull opens the lid; light enough to move, firm to grab even when packed
- An investment that lasts years — about 6 lbs of dense natural cotton rope with a soft, smooth feel, nothing prickly and no plastic frame; the weight you feel in the weave is the quality you paid for
- Big capacity, clean footprint — the upright rectangle tucks against a wall or into a closet, bedroom corner or living room shelf niche where round baskets waste space
- Decor-worthy in every room — the handwoven Camel & White Mix finish matches the photos and settles into boho, modern-farmhouse and minimalist spaces, and makes a warm housewarming or new-baby gift

Ships
Folded flat, in a small box
It arrives folded. Two minutes later it stands up.
Every basket ships flat to keep it out of a bigger box. Pull the sides apart, push the base down, then press each corner out from the inside — the corners are what make this shape sit square, so they are worth a moment.
It comes out pressed flat. That is on purpose — it keeps the shipping box small.
The zip is the one thing here that isn't rope.
We say everywhere else that there is no plastic, no wicker and no metal in our baskets. On this shape that is not quite true, and we would rather point at it than let you find it.
Everything except the zip is cotton rope — the body, the base, the lid panel and the tape the zip is stitched to. The zip itself is two materials: the teeth are resin, and the pull is zinc alloy with an iron locking piece inside it. Both sit on a cotton tape stitched into the rim. It is not a branded zip. So this basket is the one place in the range with plastic in it, and the one place with metal.
Flat sides, so there is no wasted gap.
A round basket against a wall leaves a crescent of dead floor on each side, and two round baskets side by side leave another between them. This one does not. That is the entire reason the shape exists.
If the basket is going to stand on its own in the middle of a room rather than against something, the round shapes look better doing it.
The material
Corners without a frame.
A square shape usually needs something rigid to hold its corners. This one does not — the rope is double-woven and 10 mm thick, and the corners are woven tighter than the flats so they hold their own angle. It weighs variant.weight empty, and the box it arrives in weighs about the same. No wire, no cardboard, no plastic liner.
How much does it hold?
20 inches tall, 15 across. Smaller than the laundry baskets and shaped to sit against something rather than stand alone — under a console, at the end of a bed, or two of them side by side on a shelf.
Fourteen colourways, photographed in daylight with no colour correction. Flat sides show more of the weave than a curved one does, so the two-tones read strongest on this shape.
Will it match your room?
Fourteen colourways, photographed in daylight with no colour correction. Flat sides show more of the weave than a curved one does, so the two-tones read strongest on this shape.
18 colourways, photographed in daylight and adjusted for brightness only. Naturals and jute for warm rooms; a two-tone if the pattern should do the work; rust, the greys and navy if it shouldn't.
Two ways to close this shape
Same 20"×15" basket, same flat sides. The difference is the lid, and one of them brings a zip with it.
Lifts straight off. Nothing in the basket but rope, and the lid doubles as a tray if you set it down flat.

Who makes this
You probably arrived from a search. Here's who we are.
Cottonphant makes one thing: storage baskets woven from 100% natural cotton rope. Every basket is handwoven and shaped by hand. Six shapes, up to thirty colours each — and no frames, liners or wicker anywhere in the range.
The five things people ask about the zip lid
Why does it arrive flat?
To keep the shipping box small. Pull the sides apart, push the base down and run your hand around the rim — about a minute — and it holds that shape from then on, empty or full.
Will it stand up on its own?
Yes. The rope is double-woven and thick enough to hold the shape without a frame, a liner or a plastic ring. It stays upright empty as well as full.
Will the colour look like the photograph?
Every colourway is photographed in daylight and adjusted for brightness only, never colour-corrected per basket. Each swatch on this page is a photograph of the rope itself.
How do I clean it?
Spot-clean with a damp cloth and let it air-dry. It is cotton rope with nothing inside it, so there is no liner or frame to damage.
Should I buy here or on Amazon?
Either — it is the same basket from the same stock. We recommend Amazon because returns are free and easy there. Buying direct costs you 5% less with code COTTON5.
