The material
There is nothing hard in it.
Double-woven cotton rope, 10 mm thick, and that is the whole basket. It weighs variant.weight empty, and the box it arrives in weighs about the same. No wire ring, no cardboard base, no plastic liner, no metal frame. It stands up because the rope is thick, not because there is something rigid inside it.
The wings are the same rope as the body, woven separately and stitched to the rim — the only seam on the basket, and there is still nothing rigid in it. The stripes are two ropes woven in turn, not printed, so the pattern goes through the wall rather than sitting on it.
